John G. Topham Jr. Spirit Award and Fund
Created in memory of John’s love for the Nantucket community
and to keep his Spirit alive
The Mission: To recognize a young Nantucket adult that demonstrates leadership and passion in HIV/AIDS education and prevention and to sponsor/fund a community member or organization that is participating in National and International HIV/AIDS work focused on education, prevention or care.
The John G. Topham Jr. Spirit Award nominations are to be submitted in writing. Nominations may be made by any member of the community and are reviewed and awarded by the Spirit Award Committee. The award is presented annually at the Nantucket AIDS Network’s Friendship Gala.
Criteria for the Spirit Fund Award:
- A young adult demonstrates leadership and passion in HIV/AIDS education and prevention
- An effective communicator
- A team player
- Shows integrity, creativity and intellectual drive
- Committed to a dream or vision that will better our community.
- Upholds values such as respect for others, reliability, sensitivity, maturity, patience and strength of character
Financial award of the Spirit Fund Grant:
- $500 annually awarded to a Nantucket individual in support of fundraising efforts for programs such as walks, runs, bike rides around the country.
- $1500 annually awarded to an individual in support of national and international volunteer work efforts focused on education, prevention or care.
- Recipients must complete the grant application process for their project which must be affiliated with another AIDS service organization.
- The committee will review the individual’s commitment and quality of the application to determine if funding is awarded.
